Actress Paige Chua Steps Out of Comfort Zone for Heart Foundation Charity Show

Singaporean actress Paige Chua is no stranger to the spotlight, but her upcoming performance at the Singapore Heart Foundation's 55th Anniversary Charity Show on June 29 promises to be a heart-pounding experience - literally. The multi-talented star will be making her public piano debut in what she describes as "definitely going to be quite stressful."

During an exclusive interview with AsiaOne at Tuesday's press conference (June 3), the 43-year-old revealed her nerves about performing live piano for the first time before an audience. Her musical piece, titled "Harmony Four," will feature a special collaboration with local acting veteran Chen Hanwei and young talents Newton and Newman Tong.

A versatile musician who already plays both the dizi (Chinese flute) and guzheng (Chinese zither), Paige recently showcased her skills during February's River Hongbao celebrations. Yet despite her musical background, she admits the piano presents unique challenges: "It's always been my private escape - something I play alone in my room to de-stress. Having people watch me play? That's completely new territory."

The actress traces her complicated relationship with piano back to childhood lessons that began at age five: "Classical training proved too difficult initially, so I quit. When I rediscovered piano at 14 through pop music, everything clicked because I could connect with songs I actually listened to." While modest about her skills ("my foundation isn't super strong"), she can read music and hopes this will carry her through the charity performance.

A Personal Mission Beyond Music

Paige's participation carries deeper significance than just musical performance. Following a recent health scare where routine tests revealed unexpectedly high cholesterol levels ("I was shocked - it can lead to heart disease!"), she aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular health.

"Even if you look fit," Paige emphasizes, "you might not be as healthy as you think. My message is simple: get regular checkups and mind your diet." The self-proclaimed fried food enthusiast jokes about cutting back on fries while increasing exercise, though genetics may also play a role in her condition.

A Lifetime of Giving Back

The charity event aligns perfectly with Paige's longstanding commitment to philanthropy. For seventeen years running since 2008, she has volunteered weekly with Willing Hearts soup kitchen after being inspired by founder Tony Tay's vision: "His philosophy that everyone deserves dignified meals resonated deeply during my post-graduation soul-searching period."

What began as temporary volunteer work became a lifelong passion thanks to Willing Hearts' uplifting environment: "The cheerful atmosphere makes service sustainable - that's why seventeen years later, I'm still peeling vegetables every Saturday morning before sunrise." Through both musical performance and advocacy work alike demonstrates how small acts create meaningful change when sustained over time.

Travis Kelce has grown up, says Jason Kelce
Travis Kelce is "changing" because of new people in his life. The 35-sports star has been dating singer Taylor Swift since 2023, and Jason Kelce, Travis' older brother, has been staggered by his sibling's personal evolution. Speaking about his brother's growth, Jason said on the 'Fitz and Whit' podcast: "It’s been staggering, honestly." The 37-year-old star recalled Travis having a Peter Pan-like quality during his younger years. Jason said: "One of the things I love so much about Travis is that he never grew up. He was like Peter Pan, the lost boys." Jason acknowledged that the new people in Travis' life have had a healthy influence on him in recent times. The former NFL star said: "I think that sometimes you get people in your life that maybe get that out of you. That’s a good thing." Despite this, Travis has retained a playful side to his personality. Jason explained: "Trav, he is growing up. He’s still got that youthful enthusiasm. I think he’ll kind of always have that. It’s just part of his personality." Meanwhile, Travis recently admitted to feeling inspired by Taylor during her Eras Tour. The Kansas City Chiefs star admitted to taking inspiration from Taylor, 35, and her record-breaking tour. Speaking ahead of the Super Bowl, Travis explained: "What I saw on that tour last year was pretty remarkable. "To see the week-in, week-out travelling from one country to the next and how excruciating it is on her body and on her mind - and it’s not just her. It was her entire tour. It was an absolute machine and it was something I could admire watching." Travis also revealed that he was focusing on his diet ahead of the Super Bowl. He said: "I’ve been eating clean. I haven’t been drinking as much, a little lower on the pounds this week."

Emma Bunton and Mel B 'reunited in South Korea'
Emma Bunton and Mel B reunited in November to take part in a reality TV show. The 49-year-old pop star and Mel secretly flew to Seoul, South Korea, in late 2024, when they sang alongside K-pop idols for a TV show. A source told The Sun newspaper: "A Spice Girls reunion is a way off. "So having Emma and Mel back on stage singing a Spice Girls song together might be the closest fans get to a comeback, even though it will be with K-pop stars rather than Geri Horner, Melanie C and Victoria Beckham. "They flew to South Korea at the end of last year and were on set for quite a few days as they battled it out with other pop veterans. "With them alone on board, it is a big show. But there’s also Boy George and loads of other chart-topping stars, which will be enough to encourage people to tune in." The reality show will air on Apple TV and will also feature the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and Psy, the 'Gangnam Style' singer. Meanwhile, Melanie recently revealed that she's ready to "start planning" a Spice Girls reunion. The 51-year-old singer would love to reunite with her bandmates to mark the 30th anniversary of 'Wannabe', the group's 1996 hit single. Melanie told Rebecca Judd On Apple Music 1: "There has to be something befitting of 30 years since ‘Wannabe’. "Once a Spice Girl, always a Spice Girl. We all feel like that, but we now are getting together because we know if we're going to do anything, we have to start planning things to get things right. "We have to start making the plans right now and putting them into action. So fingers crossed."
